Although the modern NBA has embraced a more positionless style of play, placing greater value on versatility and well-rounded skill sets on both ends of the floor, I still find it helpful to categorize prospects into the five traditional positions: point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. From an organizational standpoint, this approach helps us better assess the depth and makeup of each draft class. Below are my top-ranked point guards for this year’s draft, with links to scouting reports compiled by the Babcock Hoops prospect research team.
Top Point Guards
Dylan Harper | 6’5” | 213 lbs | Rutgers | Freshman
Harper is a savvy combo guard known for his scoring and playmaking ability as a 6'6" on-ball creator—a play style that should translate well to the NBA. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as he is the son of former NBA player Ron Harper.
Jeremiah Fears | 6’3” | 180 lbs | Oklahoma | Freshman
A tough, well-rounded scoring lead guard, Fears was impressive this past season. He's hard to guard as he constantly puts pressure on opposing defenses, especially in the pick-and-roll. He possesses an NBA-type game.
Kasparas Jakucionis | 6’5” | 205 lbs | Illinois | Freshman
At 6'6", Jakucionis, a big on-ball guard from Lithuania, is a skilled playmaker and floor general with excellent vision and a great feel for the game.
Nolan Traore | 6’4” | 184 lbs | Saint Quentin | International
Traore is a tough, quick, and dynamic on-ball creator who keeps opposing defenses on their heels. He is one of the top prospects playing overseas this season.
Walter Clayton Jr. | 6’2” | 199 lbs | Florida | Senior
There’s a large enough sample size to evaluate Clayton Jr. properly, and there’s no denying his ability—he can flat-out score the ball. His play in March moved the needle regarding his draft stock.
Ben Saraf | 6’6” | 200 lbs | Ratiopharm Ulm | International
A 6-foot-6 guard from Israel, Ben Saraf, has an impressive feel and is crafty. He excels as a jumbo playmaker and has performed impressively, rising as one of the top international prospects.
Dink Pate | 6’6” | 201 lbs | Mexico City Capitanes | International
He's still a work in progress, but with his size, versatility, and ability to handle the ball, Pate has so much upside. He's an intriguing prospect.
Javon Small | 6’1” | 190 lbs | West Virginia | Senior
He's still a work in progress, but with his size, versatility, and ability to handle the ball, Pate has so much upside. He's an intriguing prospect.

Ryan Nembhard | 5’11” | 176 lbs | Gonzaga | Senior
Despite his lack of size, Nembhard is a talented playmaker who consistently makes things happen on the court.
Mark Sears | 5’11” | 183 lbs | Alabama | Senior
Sears thrives as a scorer and playmaker. He produces, plain and simple.
