Wilbur Allen is a former college basketball player and coach who joined the Babcock Hoops’ team in the fall of 2019. He currently serves as Director of College Scouting, where his primary responsibility is to evaluate NBA draft prospects playing in the college ranks.
Prior to joining Babcock Hoops, Allen held coaching positions at Appalachian State for the 2018-19 season and Ole Miss for the 2017-18 season, respectively. During his time at Appalachian State, he served as an assistant coach and as coordinator of player development at Ole Miss. In that role, he was responsible for the scouting of potential prospects, preparing game plans and working with players regarding academic progress and off-court development. He also served as an assistant coach on an interim basis for 12 games. Allen was a Graduate Assistant at Ole Miss for the 2016-17 season.
Prior to coaching in the college ranks, Allen served as the head coach at the NBA YAO School in Beijing City, China.
He began his coaching career at the famed Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Allen was the associate head coach from 2008 to 2013. While with the Warriors, he coached four current NBA players: Ben McLemore, Sindarius Thornwell, Troy Williams, and Quinn Cook. In the 2011-12 season, Allen helped guide the Warriors to a perfect 44-0 record, which resulted in the school’s eighth national championship.
Allen graduated from Temple in 2006 with a bachelor of business administration in international business and marketing. He was also a four-year letter winner on the Owls basketball team.
